Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav has moved up to the second spot in the ICC T-20 rankings. Suryakumar Yadav had a poor start in the series against West Indies. He scored 24 off 16 balls in the first match and 11 runs off 6 balls in second T-20 match. Surya batted brilliantly in the third match and led the team to victory. He jumped straight from fourth to second.
Suryakumar Yadav has played 22 T-20 matches and is only two points behind the Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Surya played a brilliant innings of 76 runs in 44 balls against West Indies in the third T-20 and he finished second in the rankings. Babur has 818 points and Suryakumar has 816 ranking points.
Suryakumar has left behind Pakistan’s wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan and South Africa’s Aiden Markram. Rizwan is third and Markram is fourth position in T-20 rankings. England’s David Malan is at number five.
Suryakumar made his debut for India last year. He has scored 648 runs in 20 innings at an average of 38.11 so far. During this his strike rate was 175.60. He made a quantum jump in the rankings by scoring a century against England at Trentbridge last month. Suryakumar climbed 44 places to the fifth position with the help of his 117-run knock.
Babar Azam, on the other hand, is the only batsman in the top three in all three formats. He is at the first position in ODIs and T-20 rankings. At the same time, he occupies the third position in the test. Babar’s top spot in T-20 is in danger. India is yet to play two T-20 matches against West Indies. In such a situation, Suryakumar will have a chance to overtake Babar Azam. Surya needs only 10 runs to overtake Babar Azam in T-20 rankings.
