Fitness test before team selection – BCCI

Fitness test before selection

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided that the players will have to pass fitness test before selection in the Indian team. The board has taken this decision to avoid the odd situation in view of the failure of the players in the yo-yo test.

Recently Mohammed Shami had to leave the team before the historic Test match played against Afghanistan because he could not pass the Yo-Yo Test. With this, Ambati Rayudu was included in the team selected for England tour but he also failed to pass the fitness test. At the same time Sanju Samson was included in the India A team for the England tour, but he also got out of the team after failing in the Yo Yo Test. Hence the board has now decided to take fitness test before selection.

The Indian team for the test match against Afghanistan, Twenty-20 and ODIs against Ireland and England was announced during the IPL. From now on, before the selection of Team India, the fitness of Indian players will be tested and every player who passes in the fitness test will be selected by the selection committee.
