3 batsmen smashes six sixes in an over

Kieron Pollard six sixes

The Sri Lankan cricket team got six sixes in an over on their Caribbean tour. The first T20 match of the series was played between the two on Wednesday. Although the match was not high scoring, it created two big cricket records. First is hat-trick and other is six sixes in an over. Interestingly, Akila Dananjay involved in both records.

Dananjay first took his maiden T20 hat-trick. He dismissed Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran in three consecutive balls. But he also had an embarrassing record in the very next over. West Indies captain Kieron Pollard hit six sixes off his six balls. With this, two records were recorded in the name of Dananjay. On the other hand, Pollard also became the third batsman to hit six sixes in an over in international cricket. Let’s take a look at those special occasions when international cricket has six sixes in an over.

Herschelle Gibbs

Former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs was the first to score six sixes in an over. Gibbs achieved this feat during the ODI World Cup 2007. Opener Gibbs targeted Netherlands leg-spinner Daan van Bunge in that ODI match. Gibbs hit six sixes in the 30th over and became the first batsman in the world to do so.

Yuvraj Singh six sixes

India’s star cricketer Yuvraj Singh did this feat in T20 cricket. He did this against England in the T20 World Cup. Yuvraj had some debate with Andrew Flintoff in this match. After that he smacked fast bowler Stuart Broad in the next over. Yuvraj played high shots all around the field and we saw six sixes in one over. He became the second cricketer to score six sixes in one over in international cricket and the first cricketer to do so in T20 cricket. Yuvraj completed his half-century in just 12 balls in this match, which is still a world record.

Kieron Pollard now

The current West Indies captain Kieron Pollard repeated the feats of Yuvraj and Gibbs. Pollard took an aggressive form in the sixth over of West Indies innings in the first T20 match played in Antiga. He opened his hands after playing four balls and hit the first six over long on. After this, he did not stop here and rooted in six sixes one after the other. He became the second cricketer to achieve this feat in T20 cricket and the third to achieve this feat in international cricket.
