
Former Sports Minister of Sri Lanka Mahindanand Aluthgamge has claimed that Sri Lanka had sold 2011 world cup final match to ensure Indian victory. He said, ‘I think I can talk about it now. I’m not saying the players, but some classes were included.
Mahindanand Aluthgamge allegation on 2011 world cup final
Mahindananda had alleged that Sri Lanka had sold the final to India. However, later retaliating, he said that he had raised doubts, not claims. Former captains Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene have also described Mahindananda as ridiculous. They had demanded evidence in this regard.
Sri Lankan govt. investigation
Sri Lanka has ordered a criminal investigation into allegations of the 2011 Cricket World Cup final being sold to India. In this regard, KDS Ruvachandra, Secretary, Sports Ministry said that a criminal investigation has started. It will be investigated by the (police) independent special investigation unit under sports related offenses.
Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga has also doubted the result and demanded an inquiry. He also agree with these allegations and want to know more about it.

Local media reports said that former captain and chief selector for the 2011 final, Arvinda de Silva, has been called in for inquiry with investigators. Sri Lankan police have said that former chairman of the selection committee Arvind DeSilva has been questioned over allegations of fixing some of the sides of former sports minister Mahindanand Aluthgamge’s World Cup 2011. The inquiry lasted six hours. Upul Tharanga, the left-handed Sri Lanka opener who played the 2011 final match against India at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, would be quizzed next.

We know that Sri Lanka suffered a six-wicket defeat in the 2011 World Cup final played against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was a historical win for India as India won the ODI world cup after 28 years. Yuvraj Singh was the player of the tournament.
